Editorial Policy

Sources come first

Every how-to step, needle size, tension fix, stabilizer choice and care instruction on NeedleAndHoop comes from a published source: machine makers' manuals and support pages, needle and thread makers' guides, or university Cooperative Extension publications. Each page lists its sources.

Product information

Product specs come from the maker or the retail listing and are attributed (“per the listing”). We don't test machines, and we don't publish invented scores, star ratings or prices. Recommendations are judgments based on those published specs.

When sources disagree or are silent

Makers sometimes disagree (for example, Brother and SINGER give different oiling advice). We say so and point you to your own machine's manual. If we can't find a published source for something, we say that rather than filling the gap.
